Since 1923, Walt Disney Animation Studios has created fabulously sinister villains that we love to hate. From the bottom of the sea to the savannah, and beyond, these devious villains keep our Disney heroes on their toes.
And now, at Immersive Disney Animation in Las vegas, you will see the artistry of iconic villains come to life and up close like never before.
So who do you think is the most iconic Disney Animation villain? See if they made our list:
Like all Disney Animation villains, Ursula’s iconic design makes her instantly recognizable. Black, purple and tentacled, Ursula oozes attitude and confidence. She also literally oozes across the ocean floor on her quest to rule the seven seas. Devious and clever, this tentacled sea witch from The Little Mermaid knows how to make a deal you can’t refuse – that will ultimately benefit her own ambitions. Beware: only poor, unfortunate souls are left in her wake.
As the villain in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – the first-ever full-length Disney Animation feature – the Queen is the OG evildoer. She is also the first character we see in the movie, establishing her menacing presence from the very beginning. She tries to remain “the fairest of them all” with sinister schemes, ultimately leading to her own downfall.
Making a dramatic entrance in Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent proves that she is the one that will rain on everyone’s parade. Her horned purple, black and green design add to her villainous presence. Add her gift with green flames, and her ability to transform into a dragon, and you have a truly formidable foe. Her plan to keep Prince Phillip captive until he is an old man, and then set him free to release Aurora with true love’s kiss is also sinister to the extreme.
In The Lion King, Scar will stop at nothing to become the leader of Pride Rock. Scar knows exactly when – and how – to turn on the charm to make himself appear harmless. Scar is happy to scheme behind the scenes, manipulating his foes and followers alike in order to achieve his goals.
We all know that no-one’s neck is as incredibly thick as Gaston’s, but there is more than meets the eye when it comes to this character. What makes Gaston such an effective villain, is that he appears to be just another guy, albeit with an extremely healthy ego. However, it soon becomes clear that he has no problem enacting devious plots to get what, or who, he wants, regardless of collateral damage – simply because he believes he deserves it.
